Title
Tenants Meet with Apartment Owners
Description
Twenty tenants of 48-50 Forest Street met with representatives from the Hartford Capital Fund, building owners, and Invest Management Company (IMG) to address security, health, and maintenance concerns. The tenants had previously outlined their grievances in a letter dated October 18, 1975, citing safety issues, health hazards, and poor maintenance. The meeting was called after the tenants felt their concerns were not adequately addressed in the Hartford Capital Fund's response seven weeks later. Bert Rosen of the Hartford Capital Fund informed tenants that some issues, such as new rear cellar doors and improved outdoor lighting, had been addressed. However, he mentioned that certain problems required substantial reinvestment, and an intercom and buzzer system for locked stairwells was deemed too expensive. Requests for improved lighting and repainting faced challenges due to energy costs and outstanding debts. Tenants expressed dissatisfaction with the deteriorating upkeep since Invest Management took over, while IMG claimed to have made security improvements. A resident disputed this, citing the need for a tenant's committee as evidence of dissatisfaction. Rosen committed to meeting with IMG to create a list and timetable of improvements, to be communicated to the tenants' committee in the coming weeks.
